Outdoor Adventure Charlotte Staycation

Here’s another great Charlotte staycation idea from Ashley:

Spending time out in the country is a great way to get away from the chaos of everyday life. Located on the banks of the Catawba river, the US National Whitewater Center has a lot to offer for outdoor adventure. This unique park was built around a man-made diversion of the river to create the US National Slalom Canoe and Kayak training center. For those that want to get out on the whitewater, they offer beginner rafting trips for $60 or you can bring your own kayak and pay $20 for a day pass (for experienced white water paddlers obviously). More leisurely tours on the river are offered for $35 (ages 9+) and $20 (ages 5-8). They also offer mountain biking, climbing walls and a ropes course for those of you that don’t want to get wet.

If these activities sound too strenuous for you and the family, they offer free access to 11 miles of hiking trails that rise 70 feet above the river at some places, offering beautiful views. Take a leisurely stroll along the river and just enjoy being away from everyday life with the family. Make sure you stop back by the River’s Edge Bar and Grill overlooking the rapids for a bite to eat after your hike. Sounds like a great outdoor staycation to us!
